A stop-over in Albuferia, Portugal for Halloween

On our way back from Lisbon we had to switch trains in Albuferia.  Curious, I looked the town up and read:

“Albufeira is the largest, liveliest and most energetic of all of the resort towns that line southern Portugal’s beautiful Algarve coastline.”

That sounded pretty fun and so we hopped off the train and stayed 3 days!  The place was amazing!  Beautiful beach views, a large town with all of the amenities, caves and mountains to explore and best of all… it’s a resort town.  We’ve spent quite a bit of time in rural places so far and so it was a nice change to be in a lively place with hundreds of bars, restaurants and shops!  We wouldn’t want to live for long in a place like that but it was a blast for a few days!

As we exited our AirBnb and headed for the beach we stood over a huge cliff and looked down at the beautiful water below crashing into the rocks.  There was actually an escalator that took you down to a massive beach and then rows and rows of restaurants and bars, pumping music and throngs of people.

It was Halloween also while we were there and it was the perfect time to be in a place like Albuferia… they know how to celebrate for sure and there were bands, parties, parades and tons of people in costume!  The city basically shuts down for winter after Halloween, so the last epic blowout was well under way!
