We were originally going to live in Alicante which is about midway down Spain’s Southern Coast and we had a beautiful house picked out on Airbnb for $750 a month. It was right on the beach too! However, Quinn’s son called and informed us he was being deployed in September to…. of all places… southern Spain!! He’s going to be stationed near Seville and he and the Marines were anxious to have Quinn and Rachel nearby to hang out with!
We’ve been looking for a suitable place for weeks and we found it! We’ve decided to go to Andalucia, a magnificent area in Southern Spain made up of over 50 traditional villages, along with magnificant cities like Grenada, Seville, Cordoba, the ancient sea faring community of Cadiz and of course the Moorish castles along the way.
We decided that we wanted an authentic experience of rural country living and so we settled on a country house just outside Cádiar. It is a completely mountainous village that has preserved it´s Morisco feel and character and is situated between the striking Sierra Nevada and Sierra de la Contraviesa mountains. There were some extremely valuable archaeological remains found in the village, including pieces of ceramics from the medieval era. We plan to do a ton of hiking and exploring in the area and try to explore as many of the villages as we can.
The house itself is a traditional house made in the Moorish style. It’s got 5 Bedrooms so we have plenty of space for visitors and it’s got an amazing rooftop terrace with views of the mountain ranges and the sea!
