When Patrick and I left Corcovado and started making our way north we happened upon a cool little beach town called Dominical. We spent the first night at Piramys Hostel which was like a giant pirate ship (read the review here), and we fell in love with that little town.
We were headed down to the beach and right where it connects with the Baru River we walked up to this brightly colored Hostel called Rainbow Beach and promptly booked a room. It was in the most beautiful location, direcctly facing the beach just about 100 yards back! We ended up staying 5 days there and it was glorious!
Days were spent on the beach and walking up and down the street along the beach shopping at the booths in the market, and strolling up to town to enjoy the restaurants and nightlife. We had an amazing dinner of authentic Costa Rican fare at Su Raza, enjoyed some drinks at the local bars and met tons of great people! We ended most nights with a fire on the beach for sunset and it was glorious!
The Hostel itself was small and quaint, only 8 rooms and so it was very intimate and we got to know and become friends with everyone there. But the best thing about this Hostel is the manager, Jeremiah. I’ve rarely encountered a human being who is so gentle, peaceful and kind and he exlemplified the way a Hostel should be run. We parted as friends and he made a huge impact on all of us.
The Hostel is super chill and they don’t really advertise or do many bookings online, people just stroll down to the beach, see it and move in! Like most Hostels it’s fairly inexpensive (about $15 a night) and it’s one of the best Hostels I’ve ever stayed in. In fact, I would have happily paid twice as much!
If you’re ever in Dominical, do not miss the chance of spending some time at the Rainbow Hostel and hanging with Jeremiah!
