I’m still not sure what to think of this Hostel…
We booked online at Hostel World because the reviews said that although it was a dump, the vibe was amazing. They weren’t wrong on either account…
First, the dump. The place was filty, food all over the kitchen, bugs, laundry hanging everywhere, the staff was never around (at the beach presumably) and the beds were so awful I thought the top bunk might come crashing down on my head everytime Patrick climbed into bed!
Everything about the place reminded me of a giant pirate ship! Things were just cobbled together out of scraps of whatever was handy. Homemade chairs with broken legs, hammocks everywhere and “pirates” just passed out sleeping wherever in the common rooms.
That being said, the Vibe… oh the Vibe. It was amazing somehow and the energy in the place was off the charts. People were just so chill, enjoying the easy life on the beach. Surfing lessons, sunset fires and actually a pretty decent bar and restaurant downstairs.
They had an exceptional common room which wa open to the elements and looked straight at the beach 200 yaards away. You could lay in a hammock and smell the salt air, hear the crash of the waves and just feel the peace.
Frankly, I can’t believe that I liked this place but somehow I did! We only stayed one night there and then moved on to one of our favorite Hostels, Rainbow Beach. However, the night was fantastic and we had an amazing time. I wouldn’t stay here long term under any circumstances, but sometimes it’s nice to hang out on a Pirate ship for a night!
