Becoming a Conscious Creator means really planning your content and your interaction out. One of the best ways is to categorize your content and ask yourself if this video you are about to publish meets these goals. I use the popular formula of Inspire, Educate and Entertain. From the moment I start planning out a video I ask myself which of these three categories my video will fall into it. Sometimes it’s more than one and the best videos contain elements of all three.
Here’s a brief description of each of these things and the goals associated with them:
Inspire: These videos should leave someone with a feeling. It could be thoughtfullness, gratefullness, peace, support or anything really. The goal is for the video to hit them emotionally and make them go forth and contemplate what you talked about.
Education: These videos are meant for the user to learn something that they didn’t know and go forth to put it into practice or dig deeper and learn more.
Entertain: These videos are meant to relax the user and make them smile or laugh.
Evertime you create a video you have many different creative tools that I have spoken about in previous articles.
- Music Selection
- Lighting
- Hooks
- Calls to Action
- Ton of Voice
- Facial Expressions
- Volume Variances
…and so on.
Your goal is to tweak these things to fit the style of video you are creating. Let me give you an example:
Let’s say I want to tell the story of something funny that my kid did that led to an important point about how to raise children. Now, this video could easily be all 3, but we’re going to focus first on “Inspire,” because that’s easy to do with cute kid stories.
However, there are also some funny parts in the story and this will be focused on “Entertain.”
Lastly, the story has a point that people can walk away with and apply it to their own life. This is the “Education” component.
While you’re telling the Inspiring story use a soft voice. Smile, talk gently and slowly and try to paint vivid images in the listeners head as they listen. Music is great for these videos, but choose something instrumental, keep the volume low and choose music that goes with the inspiirational story.
As you get to the humorous parts exxagerate your facial features a little bit, raise your volume and speak a little faster and then pause momentarily before the punch line and laugh. Now you’re entertaining them!
Finally as the story draws to a close and you make your “walkaway point” you want to again lower your volume, be more gentle, give a dramtic pause and then slam that point home. Leave them with a call to action. This is the “Education” part of it.
Think of it as a roadmap that you are leading the viewer down!
Wow, this seems like a lot of effort Quinn!
Yep, it is! The good thing is that becoming a Conscious Creator is just learning a new skill. Once you’ve mastered it you instinctively do these things without having to think about it. The key is to start thinking about your content and saying, “How can I master new skils and get better at this?” Pretty soon you’ll be teaching it to other people!
So, the next time you’re planning out a video, ask yourself the question, “Does this mean Inspire, Educate or Entertain?”
