This town has been one of my favorite stops in Costa Rica and although I only intended on staying for 1 night as a stopover, I just couldn’t leave! I ended up staying almost a week and enjoyed every minute of it!

Dominical is a beautiful little surf town on the pacific side just north of Uvita and just south of Manuel Antonio. Everything is on the beach aand it’s glorious! Our favorite place to stay was the Rainbow Beach Hostel which was about 50 yards from the surf and right nexxt to the beautiful Baru River.

Along the strip of beach was a daily market where you could buy clothes, trinkets, food or just hang out and chat with some locals. We loved strolling into town too and frequenting the variety of restaurants and bars. Our favorite was Su Raza, run by Miriam who serves up authentic Costa Rican fare with a flare, but Tortilla Flats (right on the beach) came in a close second.

The town itself is filled with surfers from all over and the vibe is so chill! A lot of the people living there are workaway participants and staying for a few months to serve while they work off their lodging costs.

Although this is not a “locals” place and I missed interacting with Ticos, the people we did meet were from all over the world and they were super cool! It was a nice “vacation” style stop and we loved it!

From Dominical there are a ton of places to go including several waterfall hikes which were spectacular.  We spent virtually every night on the beach with a sunset fire, guitars and my handpan, surrounded by tons of new friends. If you’re looking for a chill, hippie beach town, Dominical will fit the bill!
