Everybody wants more views and more interaction on their videos.  It doesn’t matter whether you’re a professional affiliate marketer, a small business owner or “just” a mom talking about her kids… if you’re making videos then you’re a Content Creator.  So, the only question is, “Are you a good one or not?”  The good news is that we can all become better and better at our craft by following 10 super easy steps!

Never post a video and walk away!

This is the Golden Rule and if you follow only 1 of these 12 steps this should be the one.  Implement this regularly and you will see a massive explosion in your growth!

There is a specific process to follow:

  1.  Post your video
  2. Go directly to the “Following” page.
  3. Start interacting with every video you see.  Make sure you are treating these videos exactly as you want yours to be treated! Make their notifications light up!  Do this for 10-30 minutes.
  4. Return to your video and you will see that these people have seen you interacting and have now come to interact on your video!
  5. Answer all of their comments and try to encourage continued conversation with a question or a meaningful comment.
  6. Repeat steps 2-5

When you engage with other people they will engage with you!  Jumpstart your videos and remember, as I always say, “BE THE FOLLOWER YOU WANT TO HAVE!”

Use a Hook

The first 3 seconds of a video will decide whether the viewer will watch the rest or scroll on.  With this in mind, you need to NAIL that first 3 seconds.  This is called your “Hook.”  Consider the difference between these two scripts:

“Hey you guys, how you doing today? I was going to tell you that if,  um, if you like wanted to know about, you know , how I did…..”  SNOOZE!

“If you’ve ever wanted to know how to do X, I’m going show you exactly how in the next 30 seconds!  Ready?  Let’s go!”

Can you feel the energy in the second one?  Try this on your videos and you will be amazed at how your watch time increases!

Use a Call to Action

A “Hook” comes at the beginning and gets the viewer to attentively watch the video.  A “Call to Action” comes at the end and encourages the type of engagement you want.   If you tell people what to do they are far more likely to do it.  Don’t make them guess!

An example would be:

“So, as you can see I LOVE my coffee!  Drop me a comment and let me know what your go to drink is in the morning!”

Mention other people and tag them

People like attention and they love when you shout them out… so do it!  When you’re talking bring up a friend or a mentor or someone who you learned something from or were inspired by and mention them.  “As my friend Molly always says…..   by the way guys, she’s brilliant, I’ve tagged her below!”

The Molly comes over thankful, anyone who knows or likes Molly shouts her out in your comment box, “I love Molly too, she ives the greatest advice!”  This increases YOUR views and engagement and helps your friend!

Use Relevant Hashtags

Hashtags are designed to relate to your video content, organizing it and making it easier for new users interested in that topic to find you.  Don’t play the “Use a popular hashtag” game.  Hashtags don’t build good content… good content does.

Smile! This is your chance at a first impression!

Need I say more?  I will anyway!  Who wants to watch someone who looks uncomfortable, sad, boring, frustrated or monotone?  No one.   SMILE!  Watch your video after recording and say, “Would I want to approach this person just by looking at them?”

Tell them what you’re going to tell them 3 Times

This is an old sales technique that works great for Content Creation.  People need to hear something at least 3 times in order to remember it!  Tell them in your Hook, then tell them in your content, then tell them again with your Call to Action.

I had a follower once in one of my groups that took this advice but he was so funny! He would start a video and say, “Quinn said I need a Hook so here it is!”  Then in the middle he would again say, “Now Quinn said to repeat this 3 times and this is the second one so listen up!”  He was hilarious, but it worked!!!

Practice makes perfect!   Give it a shot!

Use Good Lighting

Whenever you make a video you have to consider the different kinds of lighting.  The basics are, Front, Back and Side.  You can adjust these by using natural light and placing yourself in the correct position or you can use ringlights and such.  I even use small lamps in my house sometimes!  Test what works for you!

Create your video off App

There are tons of reasons to do this.  Firstly, if you do so then you can use the same piece of content across multiple platforms with just a few minor changes.  Secondly, Apps crash all the time and have glitches.  Do you really want to lose your video in one of those?  Use your phone to create the video first and then upload it.

Many people also use Apps like Splice or Capcut which allow you to edit off app and add all sorts of filters, text and music.

Don’t ramble! Use a Script

Watch time is hugely important and if you ramble they are going to scroll on because you’re boring them.  Plan your videos out.  Write a script.  Make some notes.  Use index cards.  Whatever it takes to keep you on track,,,, do it!

Create your video with different scenes

Record the video in parts and move to a different shot with each scene.  Close to the camera, right side vs. left side, etc.  Mix it up!  People have very short attention spans these days so you should optimally have something changing in your video every 3-5 seconds.

Change the Tone and Volume

There’s nothing more boring than a monotone voice!  Mix the tones and the volume up!  Bring your voice down and talk slower for deep emotion, pitch your voice higher and get louder for excitement, slow down and give a dramatic pause to let it sink in deeply… heck, throw in a whisper!

Align your facial expressions

If you’re telling a sad story and using your sad voice then look sad.

If you’re happy and excited then look happy and excited!

Watch your video and see if your facial expression, your volume and tone and your content message all match.  If they do not then try again and this time focus on matching everything to tell the story.

I hope these help you!  This is a process and it takes practice!  Start by implementing a couple of these at a time and as those become natural, incorporate a few more.  Pretty soon you’ll be rocking and rolling and loving your views and interaction!
